Abstract

The objective of the study was to determine the effectiveness of total intravenous anesthesia with propofol as a technique of choice in patients undergoing elective craniotomy for brain pathology. Five patients ASA I-II, aged 35-65 years scheduled for neurosurgery were studied. Intraoperatively haemodynamics were monitored. Duration of anesthesia, total dose of propofol, time of recovery and postoperative nausea and vomiting were evaluated. Good hemodynamic stability was observed. Recovery time was quick. Incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting was very low. Neurosurgical operations were carried out under total intravenous anesthesia with propofol without side effects.
Key words: craniotomy, propofol, total intravenous anesthesia
